Thirteenth YALEBoston Choral Festival Concert

The Yale Club of Boston and the Yale Alumni Chorus is sponsoring the thirteenth weekend festival of choral singing again this year under the leadership of Jeffrey Douma, director of the Yale Glee Club, at Milton Academy, in Milton, MA, on the weekend of March 25-27, 2011. Nearly 100 singers in their teens through their 80's from across the US will participate. As in other years, our singers come from the Yale Alumni Chorus, from the Yale Glee Club alumni rolls, and from the families and friends of singers present and past.

You are cordially invited to share our gala hour-plus concluding concert, which will include songs by the Boston City Singers’ Concert Chorus. It begins at 4:00 in Milton Academy’s Ruth King Theatre in the Kellner Arts Center, followed by a reception. Ticket cost is a suggested $10 donation to the Yale Scholarship Trust of Boston and to the BCS South Africa concerts.

The Boston City Singers’ Concert Chorus, 30 high-school aged singers under the direction of Jane Money, is preparing for summer performances in Cape Town and Pretoria, South Africa. During the 2009-10 season, the Dorchester-based organization served 300 children in four Boston locations, and sang over 50 performances. In prior summers they have performed in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Philadelphia, New York, Denver, and elsewhere.

The Yale festival concert program, directed by Jeff Douma, will feature selections from Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, the core work to be performed by the Alumni Chorus next June as part of its concert tour of Turkey, Armenia, and Georgia. The concert also will offer works by Leonard Bernstein and several traditional spirituals and folk songs.
