Professor Gaddis, one of Yale’s most popular professors, teaches a wide range of courses, including the history of the Cold War and Grand Strategy. Before Yale, he was a visiting professor at the Naval War College, Oxford University, and the University of Helsinki. He has also served as the president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.
One of the nation's most prominent historians of the Cold War and a leading authority on national security and international relations, Professor Gaddis will speak about his Pulitzer Prize-winning biography, George F. Kennan: An American Life, which the committee described as "an engaging portrait of a globetrotting diplomat whose complicated life was interwoven with the Cold War and America's emergence as the world's dominant power." Henry Kissinger noted, "We can be grateful to John Lewis Gaddis for bringing Kennan back to us, thoughtful, human, self-centered, contradictory, inspirational."
