Mentoring at the Boys & Girls Club of New Haven
Date:
Sat, 12/04/2010 - 10:30am - 1:00pm

YALE CLUB OF NEW HAVEN at the BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF NEW HAVEN
253 Columbus Avenue
Saturday, December 4 - 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

There are over 4,000 Boys & Girls clubs across the country, serving approximately 5 million kids, most of whom come from underprivileged circumstances.  A key part of their mission is to encourage kids to realize the best in themselves, and adult role models who provide mentoring can be important sources of inspiration to that end.  In May 2010 as part of the Yale Day of Service, the Yale Club of New Haven and the New Haven Boys & Girls Club were part of a pilot mentoring program: approximately twenty alumni spent an afternoon with a similar number of kids twelve years and older, learning about them and helping guide them in meeting some of their aspirations.  The feedback from alumni mentors, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ staff, and the club mentees was all very positive; so much so, that we hope to schedule ongoing sessions with the Boys & Girls club throughout the year, and provide an example for similar programs at Yale Clubs across the country.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, about mentoring, and about how you can contribute your talent and experience to make a difference in the lives of New Haven kids, we invite you to join us for this first session on Saturday, December 4, at the New Haven Boys & Girls Club.  This session will be facilitated by Marv Berenblum ’56, and we will tailor subsequent programs to the needs and interests of the Boys & Girls Club and area alumni.

Please contact Christina Coffin Christina.coffin@yale.edu  by November 23 to pre-register for this session, or with any questions or ideas you might have about this program.
