Vision
A formal training program offered jointly by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) and the Yale Arab Alumni Association (YAAA). The one-day event provides training for leaders of alumni groups, volunteer associations, and other non-profit social organizations. The Leadership Forum includes presentations and discussions on how to develop institutional goals and priorities, volunteer recruitment and management, and best practices of effective leadership of non-profit organizations. The Leadership Forum will use case studies of successful Yale alumni organizations to tackle these important issues.

Format
The Leadership Forum will take place Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Dubai, UAE, at the Conrad Hotel Dubai from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and is free of charge. The full-day session is tailored to  volunteer leaders from local alumni associations and non-profit organizations with like-minded missions.

All participants should plan to attend the full-day program on the day scheduled.

Participants
In consultation with the AYA and YAAA, volunteer and social sector leaders from the region will be invited to participate. By bringing together a diverse audience, participants will have the opportunity to develop partnerships and create alliances with Yale alumni and local organizations working to have a positive impact in the region.  Program participants should hold leadership positions or demonstrate the potential and desire to become a leader.

Curriculum
The Leadership Forum will deliver a sequence of  training modules designed to equip participants with effective tools to lead in a variety of contexts, such as organizational boards or groups of volunteers. The modules will provide ample opportunity for participants to share their own success stories and to brainstorm on challenges faced by their organizations.

Topics covered include: mission discernment (what is the role of your organization today?), principles of strategic planning, best practices in leadership, governance and volunteer management, and creative programming ideas.

Required Reading
The following books will be sent to all participants in electronic format in advance of the Leadership Forum:

-Good to Great and Good to Great and the Social Sectors by Jim Collins

-Your Company’s Secret Change Agents by Richard Tanner Pascale and Jerry Sternin
