Dear Yale University Alumni,

Greetings from The Association of Yale Alumni!  We write to let you know about a new partnership between New Haven’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas and the AYA on June 11 and 12 in New Haven. 

Great Tickets
This year, the AYA and the Festival offer a $75 package of VIP “No queue, Preferred and Reserved” tickets for you and your guests on the weekend of June 11 and 12.  Forget about long lines and arriving hours before a concert or talk begins to stake out your seating.  Simply present your tickets at the VIP area as late as 15 minutes prior to an event and enjoy seating with great sound and views of the artists and other presenters! 

Special VIP Event  - NEW VENUE - The Yale College Dean's House
A special feature of this AYA/Festival ticket package includes an invitation to you and your registered guests to attend a private Welcome Reception at the Yale College Dean's House, 202 Prospect St. Provost Peter Salovey, Ph.D. ’86 will welcome you and give you a University update.  Following this, Professor Charles Bailyn ’81 inaugural Dean of Faculty, Yale/ National University of Singapore Liberal Arts College will present a Yale/NUS overview and update on this exciting partnership. Register and enjoy the architecture, the art collection, and the conversation along with a seasonal summer supper.

Enter Woolsey Hall via the Rotunda entrance to see, hear, and explore the Newberry Organ, Yale’s own “King of Instruments.”

Festival Keynote Speech: Yo-Yo Ma of the Silk Road Connection

Private Reception with Special Presentations and Buffet

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 By registering for the Festival through this invitation, you are invited to a private reception. University Provost Salovey will welcome you to the official Provost’s residence at the historic Mary Pritchard House.  As part of his welcome, he will present a University update.  Following this, Professor Charles Bailyn, Inaugural Dean of National University of Singapore, will present an overview and update on the Yale/NUS collaboration.  Click here to learn more about this initiative

CONCERT
The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma

7:00 p.m., Elm Street Stage, New Haven Green

Classical superstar Yo-Yo Ma established his Silk Road Project in 1998, to encourage deeper understanding of other cultures and beliefs - because, in his own words, “when we enlarge our view of the world, we deepen our understanding of our own lives.”

ARTS & IDEAS EVENT
Bridging the U.S. – China Cultural Divide
Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street

 3:00 p.m.

A panel of contemporary Chinese American artists and intellectuals share their unique hybrid experiences to illuminate how we might better understand cultural and social differences and commonalities between the U.S. and China.  Participants include Nancy Yao Maasbach, Executive Director Yale-China Association, and Taylor Ho Bymum, jazz performer and composer.
