Alumni Weekend
Special Tours
Five tours have been organized for Engineering
alumni and guests on Friday afternoon, October 18. Tickets for the
tours will be available at the Engineering Alumni Weekend registration
table at Rose Alumni House, 232 York Street, on October 18 beginning
at 9:00 am. Each tour will last for one hour.
Yale University Art Gallery
1111 Chapel Street
Robert Wheeler, professor emeritus
of engineering, applied physics and physics, who has studied art
history during his retirement, will lead a tour of his favorite
art in the American wing and the early Italian painting gallery.
Meet in the Great Gallery, third floor. Limited to 20 people per
tour. Offered at 1:00 and 2:30.
Yale Collection of Musical Instruments
15 Hillhouse Avenue
The curators of this famous and intriguing collection will give
private tours, during which some of the instruments will be demonstrated.
Limited to 25 people per tour. Offered at 1:00 and 2:30.
Walking tour of Science Hill
See the changes taking place as Yale invests $500 million in building
and renovation projects on Science Hill, in a tour led by Bob
Dincecco, associate director, university planning division,
Office of Facilities. Meet in the lobby of the new Environmental
Sciences Center, 21 Sachem Street (near Hillhouse Avenue). Limited
to 20 people per tour. Offered at 1:00 and 2:30.
Bus tour of Yale campus
An overview of Yale's ongoing capital projects - including residential
college renovations, Old Campus (renovation of Vanderbilt Hall),
the arts area (Sprague Hall and the renovation of 1156 Chapel Street),
Science Hill, the Law School and Sterling Memorial Library - guided
by Arch Currie, director, project
management division, Office of Facilities. Meet in front of Rose
Alumni House. Limited to 25 people per tour. Offered at 1:00
and 2:30.
Grove Street Cemetery
Jack Cunningham, professor emeritus
of electrical engineering, will give a guided tour of the graves
of scientists and engineers, including Henry Austin, J. Willard
Gibbs, Othniel Marsh, Lars Onsager, Joseph Sheffield, Benjamin Silliman,
Ithiel Town and Eli Whitney. Meet at the entrance on Grove Street
opposite High Street. Limited to 25 people. Offered at 2:30 pm
only.
