YALE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
Engineering the Future : A Sesquicentennial Symposium
October 18-20, 2002

Symposium Information

Registration fee.
The registration fee for the entire weekend, including all meals, is $200 per person. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering are underwriting a substantial portion of the cost in order to make the weekend affordable to as many alumni as possible. Click here to register online.

Special fee for graduate students. For current graduate students at Yale or any other institution, the registration fee is $15.

Hotels. We have reserved blocks of rooms at the Omni New Haven Hotel, 155 Temple Street, and The Colony Inn, 1157 Chapel Street, each within 2 blocks of Yale's Old Campus. You may reserve a room by filling out the enclosed registration form. The cost per night is $129, single or double at the Omni; $88 single/$98 double at The Colony. Parking is $8/day at both hotels. If you would like help in finding a roommate, please let us know.

Local Transportation. All weekend events will be held within walking distance of the hotels. If you think you may need assistance in getting from place to place, please indicate so on the enclosed registration form; we will be happy to make special arrangements. Information about on-campus parking will be mailed to those who register for the reunion.

Air Travel. You may want to consider flying to Hartford (Bradley Airport) or Providence (T. F. Green): fares to both airports have become more economical in recent years. U.S. Air makes connections to Tweed-New Haven airport from Philadelphia with non-jet commuter planes only. New York area options include La Guardia, JFK and Newark airports. Connecticut Limousine provides ground transportation to New Haven from Hartford and from the three New York airports, but not from Providence. Driving time from Providence to New Haven is approximately 2 hours; from Hartford to New Haven is one hour.

Trains. Amtrak and Metro North both stop at the New Haven train station.

Special Tours on Friday afternoon. Alumni who arrive in New Haven early may take advantage of a number of special tours on Friday afternoon, October 18, beginning at 1:00 pm. Among those planned to date: a tour of the Yale Art Gallery guided by engineering professor Bob Wheeler; bus tours and walking tours of campus guided by engineering faculty; and a special guided tour of Yale's extraordinary Collection of Musical Instruments. You may sign up for specific tours on Friday, October 18, from 9:30 - 2:30 at our campus check-in site, location to be announced. All tours will take place at 1:00 and 2:30 pm.

Graduate School Alumni Notes. Included in this mailing is a request for information about your current work, whether in academics or another field. We will produce a booklet to be mailed to all Graduate School alumni in engineering before the October Alumni Weekend. We would like to include notes from as many alumni as possible, and encourage you to respond. Click here to submit your notes. The deadline for submissions is August 1.

Undergraduate Alumni Notes. News and biographical updates from undergraduate alumni will be collected by the Faculty of Engineering, via e-mail only, and made available to fellow alumni on a password-protected website page. You are encouraged to submit news and notes now at http://www.eng.yale.edu/alumni/dataform.htm.

Finding "Lost" Alumni. If you know the address or institutional affiliation of any lost alumni--i.e. Alumni for whom we have no contact information--please let us know. Hints or clues are gratefully accepted! We strive to maintain current addresses for all alumni - we'd like to send information about the Engineering Alumni Weekend to everyone.
