The Corporation - An Overview

Current Members - http://www.yale.edu/about/leadership.html

The Yale Corporation is made up of nineteen individuals, called Fellows. They are the President of the University, ten Successor Fellows chosen by the Corporation itself and limited to two six-year terms, and six Alumni Fellows, elected one each year by the alumni for staggered six-year terms. In addition, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Connecticut are ex officio Fellows.

The Corporation meets on a regular schedule during the year and occasionally in special session when events warrant. The Corporation has nine standing committees: Education Policy, Insitutional Policies, Development and Alumni Affairs, Audit, Buildings and Grounds, Finance, Investments, Trusteeship and Honorary Degrees.

Typically, the Fellows come to New Haven on a Friday morning for one of the regular weekend meetings. During the day, they meet in committees with administrators and others who are relevant to the work of the committee. In the evening, the Fellows have dinner with the Officers of the University. On Saturday there is a formal meeting of the full Corporation to act on recommendations of the committees. Often in the course of a weekend meeting, Corporation members meet informally with faculty and students.

The Corporation is the highest policy-making body at Yale and the ultimate governing authority for the University. The Yale Corporation is presided over by the President of the University.
