Friday, February 15th

  • A memorial station will be available in the Pierson Common Room for any alums wishing to pay their respects to members of the Pierson family who are no longer with us.


Noon – 8:00 pm           Welcome table and registration.  Pierson Common Room

Early arrivals are encouraged to sit down and relax in anticipation of a spectacular weekend.  Take a few moments to savor being back in Pierson, while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and other light refreshments.  Pierson Common Room

 

2:30 - 3:30 pm              Beinecke Special Exhibit Tour


A curator-guided tour of the new “By Hand – Celebrating the Manuscript Collections of the Beinecke” at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.  Alums will get a rare chance to see some of the most unique pieces in Beinecke’s world-renowned collection, including Lewis & Clark’s map across the west, the Vinland manuscript, a letter from Mark Twain to Walt Whitman, and many more.  Tour will depart from Pierson Common Room at 2:15pm
 

 

3:30 – 4:30 pm            Tours of Pierson

Tours of Pierson College, with highlights of renovations to the steam tunnels, including the new performance spaces, state-of-the-art gymnasium, game room, theater, library, print shop, and café, under Master G’s tenure.  Tours will be led by current Piersonites. Tours will last 30 min, and leave every 15 min from the Pierson Common Room 

 

5:00 – 8:00 pm            Master's Open House

Join Master Goldblatt for an open house at the Master’s house.  Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served. Guests will be treated to live entertainment from magician Jennifer Kramer PC'14.  Master's House

 

7:30 – 10:00 pm          A Warm Welcome


For alumni/ae looking for a common gathering spot for dinner, 116 Crown Bar, Kitchen & Cellar (recipient of Connecticut Magazine's "Best Cocktails" award for 2013) will be reserving space for Pierson alums and offering exclusive drink specials on selectedalcoholic beverages. At 9 pm, alums will be treated to a free concert by one of Yale's most fun-loving a cappella groups, the Duke's Men.  116 Crown Bar, Kitchen & Cellar

Catch up with your fellow alumni/ae at New Haven watering-holes.  Note that the class ranges are suggestions only; alums are encouraged to venture to the other locations to meet Piersonites of all eras.  Cask Republic (classes from the ‘60s and earlier); Rudy’s (classes from the ‘70s and ‘80s); BAR (classes from the ‘90s to the present)

One of the most celebrated professors in Yale's history, Gaddis Smith PC'54, will delignt attendees with tales of the early days of Pierson College and some of its most cherished, as well as its quirkiest, traditions. Moderated by amateur Yale historian and widely-recognized expert on Yale secret societies, Graham Boettcher PC’95. McNeil Lecture Hall, Yale University Art Gallery

 

 10:45 – 11:45 am     Pierson Takes on the World:  Impact of Piersonites in Various Professions


Our featured moderator Sandra Ro, PC’96 will be joined by fellow Pierson luminaries from the fields of fine arts, humanities, movies, music, and sports to discuss how they made it in their professions and offer valuable advice to fellow Piersonites considering a career change. Confirmed panelists include:

  • Diane Straus Tucker, PC'73, one of the most decorated female athletes in Yale's history, as well as a member of Yale's first graduating class of women, Ms. Tucker is currently the publisher of the Washington Monthly.

 

  • Bronwen Hruska, PC'87, acclaimed journalist, screenwriter, and publisher of The Soho Press. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, More Magazine, and Entertainment Weekly, among others. She has sold original scripts to Columbia Pictures, NBC, CBS and Lifetime. Her first novel, Accelerated was published in October, by Pegasus Books.

 

  • Alan Light, PC’88, Rolling Stone rock critic, co-founder of VIBE, editor-in-chief of Spin, NPR music correspondent, and author of critically-praised books on Gregg Allman and Leonard Cohen.

An opportunity for alumni/ae of all years to casually meet and mingle, and have an opportunity to share their memories of Pierson College from its first days to the present. Featuring a live performance by Yale Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Jessica Oddie PC’13. Wine provided Gary Newman PC’76’s Jorian Hill Vineyards. Pierson Common Room

 

 2:45 – 3:15 pm           In Memoriam

A memorial station will be available for any alums wishing to pay their respects to members of the Pierson family who are no longer with us.  Attendees are encouraged to further the living memories of their departed classmates by joining other alums in the Common Room and sharing favorite anecdotes over wine and stories. Piersonites have been elected to some of the highest offices in the land. So what do they think about life as a public servant and the future of politics in this country? Confirmed panelists include:

  • Howard Dean PC'71, six-time Governor of Vermont and former Presidential candidate.

 

  • Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, PC'78, United States Senator representing the state of Rhode Island, presently in his second-term.

 

  • George Pataki PC67, former Governor of New York.

 

  • Moderated by Jaime Harrison PC'98, the first Aftican-American Executive Director of the House Democratic Caucus.

Take a private tour of the newly renovated Yale University Art Gallery, described by The New Yorker magazine as "a world-class encyclopedic museum" that "bids to be by a fair margin the mightiest teaching-related museum in the United States." Hosted by the museum's curator. Tour will leave from Pierson Common Room at 10:45 am

 

11:00 am – 1:30 pm    Brunch

Enjoy Sunday brunch in the Pierson dining room with current students.  Brunch is not included in the reunion fee, pay at the door.
