In the Company of Scholars:
Yale Women In A Changing World
Post Conference Resources
April 30 & May 1, 2004
Susanna E. Krentz ’80, Chair
Post-conference survey (Survey
executive summary in PDF format)
Over 40% of conference attendees responded to a follow-up
survey soliciting reaction on a number of key issues
including overall quality, various program elements,
conference logistics, and next steps. The vast majority
(some 93%) rated the overall quality of the women's
conference as "excellent" or "very good."
One hundred percent of the survey respondents expressed
interest in attending a similar conference in the next
two to five years.
"This was a wonderful experience. Before I went
several (male) friends asked why I was going, what
the point was. Although I couldn't really explain to
them very well what it was all about before I went,
I found I learned a great deal about myself, my time
at Yale, and about women's current place in society.
Men usually have plenty of other male colleagues/mentors
around; it was simply nice to be with so many successful
women!" says an attendee from the Class of 1980.
"I liked getting valuable career/life insights
from more senior women. At the same time, I provided
the recent graduates with mentoring, as well. It was
great to get the whole spectrum of perspectives across
the age ranges. On a related note, I liked how a Q&A
session launched a 70's/90's debate on the women's
movement and "opting out." I'm glad I had
the chance to continue the discussion afterward in
small groups. When the senior administrators referred
to each other as "my sisters on the panel," I'm
slightly embarrassed to say I literally cried. The
conference energized and inspired me. I am so happy
that out of all the topics floated for the conference,
the AYA picked this one. That speaks volumes about
Yale's commitment to promote and celebrate women's
achievements," says a Class of 1991 alumna .
