News from New Haven
September 2004
Dear Club and Association Presidents:
Greetings from New Haven! The campus is looking lovely as we start
a new academic year, although our corner of the world is filled with
construction.
The workers are putting the finishing touches on the renovations
to Pierson College, and are just underway in their work on Davenport.
Science Hill is ablaze with cranes, with work being done on the new
Chemistry building as well as the new Engineering Center.
As I have indicated previously, you will no longer be receiving
printed letters from New Haven about our various programs, but will
instead be receiving email prompts with links to the Club Presidents
Toolbox to find the necessary information. At this time of year we
have two main items on our agenda: Speakers and Support Services
(getting lists, etc.). As will be the case with all mailings, information
and the necessary forms are available in the Club Officers Toolbox.
Two important notes to reiterate on these subjects.
1.) Regarding the Speakers Program - if a speaker is visiting your
club, and there is no overnight expected, the Club will now be responsible
for all travel costs for the speaker, up to $250 (the regular amount
for a speaker fee). If additional speaker visits are arranged, as
was the case in the past, the Club will be responsible for all costs
associated with the visits.
The Club must assume responsibility for renting or borrowing equipment
if a speaker has audiovisual needs. Please inquire before you commit
to a speaker because this can be expensive if the faculty uses a
power point presentation. Occasionally, the AYA may call a club to
inform them about a speaker traveling to their area. No speakers
fee will apply, but any incidental expenses incurred by the speaker
must be covered by the Club.

2.) You can order lists, disks and email lists from Yale Alumni Services.
Yale Clubs and Associations will again be entitled to two requests,
free of charge (lists, labels, disks only). If you request additional
lists, your Club or Association will be charged the regular fee (approx
$35) by Alumni Services. http://www.aya.yale.edu/clubofficers/data/default.htm
If you ask Alumni Services to prepare a mailing for your club, you
must assume all the costs associated with that mailing.
A few other pieces of business:
* If you did not fill out the Year End Report that was sent to you
over the summer, please take the time to do so now (available where?
In the
Toolbox!) The information you provide is very important, and I will
be summarizing your responses so you can benchmark yourselves with
other Clubs.
By the way, Congratulations to the Cincinnati Yale Club who turned
140 this year - they were founded in 1864!
* We will shortly have the information on the transmission of the
Yale Harvard Game. It will be broadcast the same way that it was
last year. The ball is in Harvard's court this year ( so to speak),
so many of you will be spared the organizational duties, but I will
have the specific information for you by the end of the month.
Best wishes to you all. We at the Rose Alumni House and specifically
those of us in the Club Group look forward to working with each of
you this year.
