The Yale Alley Cats, now celebrating their sixty-second
anniversary, have a diverse repertoire that reflects the
group’s tradition and musicality. From their humble
beginnings as a barbershop quartet of crooning Yalies in
1943, The Alley Cats have evolved to become one of the most
renowned all-male a-cappella singing groups in the world.
The Cats’ repertoire comprises a blend of styles including
jazz, traditional ballads, Motown, and popular songs, as
well as traditional Yale songs and a good dose of humor.
In recent years, the Alley Cats have sung for royalty in
Monaco, performed at five star hotels in East Asia, circumnavigated
the globe on a World Tour, and performed on national television
for Martha Stewart. The Alley Cats anticipate an exciting
year of performances in the Northeast, Montreal, Florida,
and the Caribbean, and this coming summer the Alley Cats
will embark on a tour of Asia. With tradition, professionalism,

The Baker’s Dozen formed in 1947, and over the past
half century has established a diverse repertoire varying
from traditional pieces to jazz and modern pop/rock classics.
Performances in recent years include concerts at the White
House for President Bush and the Class of ’68, the
National Anthem for the LA Lakers, on the set of Miramax
Pictures “The Forgotten,” television show “The
Wayne Brady Show,” ski resorts and country clubs throughout
the country, as well as Yale Clubs in the Northeast and California.
Shows are tailored to the mood and makeup of each distinct
audience and seek to engage every crowd with not only harmony,
but unsurpassed showmanship. We are Old Yale class and pose
on minute, and funny for 6-year olds the very next. The BDs
have a passion for each other and for the music, and because
they show both, the audience always leaves smiling.

Founded in 1952 by a beloved master of Saybrook College,
The Duke’s Men have a fifty-three year history of outstanding
musicianship, ground-breaking humor, and close camaraderie.
From entertaining the Clintons and the Bushes at the White
House to performing in Hollywood for Vanna White to performing
at Lincoln Center in the International Competition of Intercollegiate
A Cappella, the past few years have proven the most amazing

Living Water is a co-ed Christian a cappella singing group
dedicated to worshiping God and drawing others to a closer
relationship with Him. We were formed in 1979 and since then,
Living Water has grown immensely in our Christian repertoire
and our ministry. Living Water has also traveled extensively
within the United States during our breaks. In our ministry,
we strive to bring musical excellence to our audiences as
well as witnessing the power of Jesus Christ in our lives.
With our mouths we sing, pray, and share the Gospel of Jesus
our Lord; with our lives, we act and live according to the
Christ we preach. We do these things through the leading
of the Holy Spirit, who is ultimately, the true "Living
Water".

In 1981, twenty undergraduate men and women under the name
of Mixed Company burst forth into song for the first time
in a performance immediately heralded as “one small
step for man, one giant leap for a cappella entertainment.” Mixed
Company blends a versatile repertoire of traditional Yale
anthems, humorous songs, folk songs, spirituals and pop compositions
with an ever-evolving off-beat humor.

When women were first admitted to Yale in 1969, the New
Blue burst on the scene with a revolutionary sound that would
forever change the face of Yale a cappella. As the university's
oldest women's organization of any kind, New Blue is proud
to maintain a matchless blend of musical excellence, enthusiasm,
and friendship. New Blue's repertoire ranges from favorites
of the past to award-winning renditions of current popular
artists, including Aretha Franklin, Simon and Garfunkel,
James Taylor, Ani DiFranco, and Lauryn Hill. Recent concerts
include entertaining at Universal Studios Florida, singing
at The Empire State Building, and performing as the opening
act for Bill Cosby. Now celebrating 36 years of women at
Yale, New Blue is looking forward to another year of captivating

Out of the Blue is Yale’s premier coed pop/rock a
cappella group. Whether performing on a Florida beach, at
a California coliseum, or on the Queen Elizabeth II cruise
liner, Out of the Blue leaves audiences clamoring for more.
Our repertoire spans both contemporary and traditional music
but focuses on today's pop, accented by the addition of vocal
percussion to our ensemble of voices. Out of the Blue's unique
sound and performance style comes from a combination of innovation
and tradition, song and choreography -- a sure winner for
any occasion.

Proof of the Pudding, founded in 1975 as one of the first
all-female organizations at Yale, has ever since been dazzling
audiences worldwide with its sophisticated music and exuberant
performing style. Having gradually branched out from its
previous all-jazz repertoire, Proof now showcases a variety
of contemporary favorites while still preserving its original
soulful sound. In recent years, the group has toured Dallas,
Miami, Hawaii, Boston, Washington D.C., The Carolinas, New
York and Boca Raton, and all while recording several successful
albums and staging its annual Jamboree on campus. This winter,
Proof is touring the Philadelphia area and in the spring
are planning a trip to Paris, France. Most importantly, while
maintaining our reputation for outstanding a cappella is
always top priority, we pride ourselves most on the lasting
spirit of sisterhood, friendship, and fun that Proof truly
embodies.

Redhot & Blue is Yale’s oldest co-educational
a cappella singing group. We’ve performed across the
United States and around the world, from elegant banquets
on the decks of the Queen Elizabeth II to informal interactive
shows with Chicago first graders. The group has appeared
at Carnegie Hall and the White House and even been given
its own honorary week in Topeka, Kansas. Our repertoire includes
everything from jazz standards to Broadway showstoppers,
all delivered with our signature style and sophistication.
According to the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America,
Redhot & Blue is “one of the nation’s most
consistently excellent mixed collegiate a cappella groups.”

Shades is a co-ed group conceptualized with the intent to
bring a style of a cappella reflective of diverse musical
backgrounds to Yale’s community. Historically, Shades
has presented music stemming from the African Diaspora, primarily
from the African-American musical traditions. Our purpose
now is to celebrate each other through songs we love to sing.
We challenge ourselves to achieve musical excellence and
to create unique choreography; more importantly, we strive
for a unification of individuals from a wide spectrum of
races and ethnic backgrounds, pooling our creative energies
and unique experiences to bring beauty, joy, and inspiration
to our audience, at Yale and elsewhere.

The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, America’s second
oldest a cappella singing group, is an eclectic group of
talented young men who combine world-class a cappella with
a unique brand of humor that has left audiences worldwide
rolling in the aisles. Steeped in a rich heritage, the SOB’s

Founded in 1914 as a satirical response to the Whiffenpoofs,
the Spizzwinks(?) maintain a broad repertoire of exclusively
original arrangements from the past 91 years--jazz standards,
ballads, Broadway show tunes, pop and rock music, traditional
Yale College songs, and humorous numbers. The Spizzwinks(?)
perform over 100 concerts each year, bringing our superlative
harmonies and unique humor to country clubs, yacht clubs,
corporate events and private parties all over the country.
The Spizzwinks(?) can create a performance, up to two hours
in length, that is the perfect addition to any occasion.

The Yale Whiffenpoofs are the nation’s oldest and

Within the department of Yale Bands can be found three different
groups: the Yale Concert Band with approximately seventy
select brass, woodwind, keyboard and percussion players;
the Yale Jazz Ensemble, a standard big band, and the infamous
Yale Precision Marching Band, the spirit of all home football
games (in the winter, spring and fall the YPMB also supports
other Yale sporting events, including hockey, basketball,
lacrosse and track, among others).

The Yale Women’s Slavic Chorus, founded in 1969, performs
traditional music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Dressed
in embroidered blouses and aprons, the women of the Slavic
Chorus sing of love, and sorrow in styles that range from
the mountain holler music of Bulgaria to haunting Bosnian
melodies.

This 90-piece ensemble enjoys its reputation as one of the
premiere undergraduate orchestras in the country. They perform
an average of seven concerts a year in and around Yale and
New Haven, as well as supporting the creation of several
smaller orchestral groups on campus. Their midnight Halloween
show is an annual highlight of their program.
