University Update

University Update

Early Saturday morning, Yale President Richard Levin '74 PhD provided a general update of University affairs. His remarks covered some of Yale's major academic initiatives including its commitment to science, as demonstrated by the investments in new facilities on Science Hill and a new building at the Medical School. He also spoke about Yale's commitment to internationalizing its student body and curriculum. After discussing the appointment of former Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo to be the new director of the Center for the Study of Globalization, Levin described a new leadership program, the Yale World Fellows Program, which will bring to Yale accomplished and emerging leaders in diverse fields from around the world. The President also explained the mission of the undergraduate curriculum review currently taking place. The charge is not so much to remedy problems with the current program, but to expand opportunities to capture the benefits of a major research university for the undergraduates.

During the question-and-answer period, the President addressed the following subjects:

  • The Alliance for Lifelong Learning
  • Early admissions
  • Career services engaging the assistance of alumni
  • International composition of Yale's student body
