University Update
Early Saturday morning, Yale
President Richard Levin '74 PhD provided a general update
of University affairs. His remarks covered some of Yale's major
academic initiatives including its commitment to science, as demonstrated
by the investments in new facilities on Science Hill and a new building
at the Medical School. He also spoke about Yale's commitment to
internationalizing its student body and curriculum. After discussing
the appointment of former Mexican president Ernesto Zedillo to be
the new director of the Center for the Study of Globalization, Levin
described a new leadership program, the Yale World Fellows Program,
which will bring to Yale accomplished and emerging leaders in diverse
fields from around the world. The President also explained the mission
of the undergraduate curriculum review currently taking place. The
charge is not so much to remedy problems with the current program,
but to expand opportunities to capture the benefits of a major research
university for the undergraduates.

period, the President addressed the following subjects:
