LVIII: Three Hundred Years of Creativity and Discovery
Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April
22, 2001
8:30 am-11:30 am
Plenary: The Past and Future of Alumni Relations at Yale
Larned Professor Emeritus of History, Gaddis Smith ’54, ’61 PhD
Former Executive Director of the AYA, Eustace D. Theodore ’63
Yale University Art Gallery Lecture Hall
Professor Smith has been working for some time on a history
of Yale in the 20th century, which should be published later this
year.
Eustace Theodore has gone on from Yale to three years as President
of the Council of the Advancement and Support of Education, followed
by the formation of a consulting company devoted to working both
here and abroad on advancement issues for colleges and universities.
We are also planning to hear some surprising, amusing and moving
alumni voices from the past 300 years based on research being conducted
for this program in the Sterling Library archives.
At the end of the session, we will also introduce the eleven candidates
for the Board of Governors, seven of which you will be asked to
vote for as new Board members. The election of the new members of
the Board is critical to our governance, so please plan your travel
arrangements to ensure that you will be present for our plenary
session beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Yale University Art Gallery
Lecture Hall on Friday, April 20, 2001.
11:30am-1:00pm
Tercentennial edition of the Yale Medal Ceremony Luncheon
University Commons
Immediately following lunch, the Tercentennial
event schedule begins. You will join more than 1,000 other
alumni representatives and leaders in sampling some of the almost
fifty panels, lectures, seminars, performances and special events
led by Yale’s most distinguished faculty and alumni.
There will also be special musical performances
on Thursday evening (for those arriving the day before) and on Friday
evening, as well as a gala closing dinner on Saturday. On Sunday,
a special interfaith service will be offered to close the weekend.
