Assembly
LXI: The Undergraduate Curriculum at Yale
Thursday, October 24 - Saturday,
October 26, 2002
Assembly Chair Marc B. Lockhart '84
Executive Summary
Over 350 delegates, guests, and alumni
attended this Assembly devoted to the review of the Yale College
curriculum. Over the course of three days, delegates learned about
the mission and progress of Yale College Dean Richard Brodhead's
review committee, which is undertaking the first complete review
of the Yale College curriculum in over three decades.
Delegates were asked to complete a homework
assignment prior to their arrival that enabled them to provide their
own input and opinions into the process. The homework involved formulating
the ideal Yale College academic program, based on what delegates
know now versus when they first arrived at Yale as freshmen. Each
delegate was sent a copy of the current Blue Book and a worksheet
to record their course selections and to reflect upon the principles
that led them to choose those 36 courses from among thousands of
alternative choices.
