Executive Summary
Club Breakout
Moderators: Nory Babbitt, Director
of Club and Association Relations and John Scales '54, Chair
of the Yale Clubs and Associations Committee
Delegates voiced many priorities, goals, and problems,
most of which the Committee had already been discussing and for
which they have been making plans. Major issues, problems, suggestions,
and solutions raised are as follows:
- Better utilization of alumni data provided by
AYA
- Scholarships/financial aid
- Intra-club activities
- Helping students while at Yale and getting them
involved in club activities
- Staying in touch with students, including sending
care packages at exam time
- Reaching out to Yale seniors before they graduate
- Communication challenge, including bulk mailing,
web sites and web templates
- Membership issues, web/e-mail
- Sending the right message by holding the best
events to attract alumni
- Notification from New Haven when administrators,
athletic teams, etc. are visiting a club area
- Raising the awareness of Yale in the local community
- Career counseling
- Surveying recent graduates about their thoughts
concerning Yale clubs
- Alumni schools committees-improving contact
and communication with the admissions office
- Attracting graduate and professional school
graduates to the clubs
- Getting alumni together around science and engineering
issues
- Lifelong learning in connection with specific
intellectual interests
- International interests, particularly with clubs
that don't have a critical mass of alumni §
- Connecting alumni with identity groups on campus
- Setting up an alumni knowledge/talent bank
- Senior societies and fraternities
- Connect interest groups with opportunities abroad
- Temporary interest groups around particular
topics with faculty
- Finding out what exactly the special interest
groups want
- Helping groups without mailing lists or activities
get organized
