Moderators: Jenny Edwards '89, Director
for Yale College Classes, and Marne Obernauer '65, Chair
of the Yale College Class Committee
1) What should the AYA be seeking to accomplish
with Yale College reunions?
Class-specific activities should be open to
all classes
Cluster reunions may be preferable to 5-year
reunions because they foster cross-class connections § Reunion
theme should be: God, Country & Yale
Yale/New Haven programming for all-alumni -
a tour with local business leaders? Include the recent NY Times
article in reunion mailings/on the website? (the article on New
Haven as a weekend destination)
Aggregate data on motivations for attending
reunions to build life-stage profiles. Which motivations are the
drivers for each age group?
How to build on 5-year reunion energy, especially
for the younger classes?
Pre-reunion events
2)
Aside from reunions, how can the AYA act most effectively to promote
class identity and networking?
Better support for the idea of mini-reunions
& other class activities - more encouragement to class officers
that these activities are a good idea
Classes who have had successful events can serve
as resource people to other classes
Handbook for class officers (BOG class committee
project)
Mini guidelines do exist - strong class volunteers
are critical to success
Younger class activities - one-day events, combine
with other classes § Mini-reunions - need to have both camaraderie
& intellectual engagement
Listservs are a way to connect (e.g. post 9/11)
Monthly class lunches (NYC, DC) - could be done
as a joint-class event also. Can attract alumni from outside the
area who just happen to be visiting.
International travel (like '57s international
minis)
