Executive Summary
Concert with Fenno Heath
Delegates
were pleasantly surprised to discover that they themselves were
to be the new choral group to premier with former Director of the
Yale University Glee Club and Marshall Bartholomew Professor Emeritus
Fenno Heath ’50, ’52 MusB, ’52 MusM. After introductory reflections
about the Glee Club and about his years at Yale steeped in song,
Fenno rehearsed the delegates and directed them in moving renditions
of Aura Lee, Reunion Song, and Bright College Years.
Yale Alumni Fund Chairman’s Award Dinner
Bobbi Marks '76, Chairman
of the Yale Alumni Fund presented Yale Alumni Fund Chairman’s Awards
to Anne M. Briscoe ’49 PhD, Christopher K. Chapin ’67,
William L. Gaines ’51 PhD, Joseph G. Grasso ’83, Hoyt C. Pease ’34,
Douglas H. Springer ’47, E. Leigh Quinn ’54. The keynote speaker,
Joseph Polisi ’73 MusM, ’75 MusAM, ’80 MusAD, and President
of the Juilliard School addressed the identity crisis that art has
suffered in the current consumer-oriented society. He emphasized
the importance of art and its role in society and called upon Yale
and other institutions of higher education to answer the call for
an environment that nurtures the arts. “Art,” he said, “prevents
us from settling for the mediocre” which permeates today’s society.
